Martin Daubney AM KC

Since his retirement from the Supreme Court of Queensland at the end of 2021, the Honourable Martin Daubney AM KC has returned to practice in the fields of mediation, arbitration, and governance advisory work.

He is a nationally accredited mediator, with extensive experience in mediating a wide range of disputes.

After initially practising as a solicitor, Mr Daubney was admitted as a barrister in 1988 and was appointed as Senior Counsel (now King’s Counsel) in 2000. As a barrister, he practised principally in commercial law. He developed and maintained a significant practice as a mediator, particularly in commercial disputes. From 1994, he was also admitted to practise in Fiji.

At the time of his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2007, he was President of the Bar Association of Queensland, having served on the Council of the Bar Association for more than 10 years.

He served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland from July 2007 until 31 December 2021. He was also President of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal for four years from October 2017.

Doyle’s Guide has listed him as a leading Queensland Mediator in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

He has significant governance experience in both the public and not-for-profit sectors. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Queensland Art Gallery since 2020 and was appointed Chancellor of Australian Catholic University on 1 January 2022.
